A hybrid lens is a great option for individuals with high astigmatism who are uncomfortable wearing glasses, and/or not satisfied with their quality of vision in soft toric contact lenses.
For individuals with high astigmatism, glasses are somewhat limited in the quality of vision they can provide. Because the prescription is further from your eye than a contact lens, it can cause a motion sickness sensation for individuals with higher prescriptions. The size of the frame limits your field of clear vision, which can be problematic for sports, dance, and other activities.
Similarly, soft contact lenses may not provide individuals with high astigmatism the most clear, comfortable vision.
A soft contact lens is comfortable because it lays gently over the cornea (like a blanket). However, when you have a cornea that is very curvy, it is likely to move around between blinks, which can be bothersome and uncomfortable.
A hybrid lens tackles the shortcomings of glasses and soft toric contact lenses by incorporating a rigid center to provide better quality vision and stability, and a soft landing zone, providing better comfort than rigid corneal lenses.
